As part of its mission, the Heroes Foundation also offers the Susan J. Patrick Clinical Fellowship.  An endowed Clinical Fellowship has been created in honor of Sue, Cindy Todd’s mother, who was instrumental in supporting Vince Todd, Jr. through his battle with cancer, only to succumb to this deadly disease after being diagnosed for the third time.

Fellowships are vital to the research and education mission of the Indiana University School of Medicine.  This training opportunity allows faculty to recruit promising young physician researchers from around the world to train in an environment that fosters the merging of research and treatment.  Fellows not only focus their training on the treatment of specific groups of diseases but also learn to translate laboratory research so that patients benefit from innovative approaches to care.  Indiana University Fellows participate in collaborative research efforts as well as conduct independent investigations.  These fellowships sustain the dissemination of advanced medical practices beyond the academic environment and foster the advancement of medical research.

Once the endowment goal of $250,000 is met, there will be a Susan J. Patrick Fellow, concentrating his or her efforts in the field of Oncology through the Indiana University School of Medicine each year.
